Art Night was London’s largest free contemporary art festival. Each year the festival partnered with a leading cultural institution, focusing on a different area of London to explore its distinctive identity, culture and architecture through various forms of art.
The 2020 festival was postponed to 2021, which marked the festival’s fifth edition — and to celebrate, Art Night extended its run-time to a full month and took place throughout the UK for the first time.
As Head of Design, I was responsible for the overall branding and production of digital and print assets. The 2020 edition took inspiration from defiance in small acts and moments of self-determination. In discussion with the artistic director, I was asked for a design that referenced the architecture of the area and the themes in an abstract way, while remaining soft and inviting.
I drew on the colours of dusk (that referenced the late-summer-evening-vibe of the festival) for the colour palette and used stacking and changing perspectives in the graphic elements, to highlight togetherness and strength.
