Richard Saltoun Exhibition Catalogue

Richard Saltoun is a gallery that specialises in post-war art with a special emphasis on conceptual, feminist and performance artists who emerged during the 1970s. They commissioned me to create a catalogue for their exhibition Feminism in Italian Contemporary Art — a joint show of two Italian artists, Silvia Giambrone and Marinella Senatore, curated by Paola Ugolini.

Activism, the street, banners and marches all serve as central themes for the exhibition so the gallery wanted this publication to express these elements — almost like a notebook — but with a contemporary art feel.

To give it this aesthetic, I chose Eco Kraft Cardboard for the cover, and red cloth spine tape to bind. The opening and closing pages are GF Smith Transclear paper, printed with white ink. The inner pages alternate between uncoated and gloss stock, for text and imagery respectively. The colour palette is drawn from the artworks in the exhibit as well as punk print and literature.
